Tails University is a family-owned and operated dog training business serving Grimes County, Texas, and surrounding communities. We're passionate about helping dogs and their humans build stronger relationships through communication, trust, and understanding.

We believe dog training is about communication, trust & understanding, not quick fixes or unrealistic expectations. Our mission is to teach humans to speak dog, helping dogs and families thrive by building stronger bonds and creating lasting change.

Every dog & human deserves the chance to learn, and no family should go without training because of cost. We strive to make quality, practical training accessible & affordable for all. Every dog, family, and situation is different, and our goal is to provide the guidance and tools needed to navigate real-life challenges together.

Training is an option, help is available, and it's never too late to start. Sometimes, behaviors that frustrate or overwhelm us are signs that a dog needs clearer communication, guidance, or help navigating the world. With the right support, these challenges can become more manageable, giving families a chance to move forward together.

Every year, dogs enter shelters for many reasons, behavioral challenges being the leading contribute to families feeling they've run out of options. With shelters facing overcrowding and limited resources, we believe education and accessible training can be part of the solution. By empowering families with the knowledge and skills to work through challenges, we hope to help more dogs remain in the homes that love them.

🐾About Our Founder🐾

Owner & Head Dog Trainer - Paul Telthorster

2026 marks the 13th year of professional dog training for Paul. His journey began with the rescue of his best friend, Baxter, whom he found abandoned in a soccer field parking lot. That life-changing experience led him to transition from horse training to dog training.

In 2012, Paul began training under Dan Linder at Action Dogs USA. The following year, he graduated from Animal Behavior College (A.B.C.) with his Dog Training Certificate and founded P.W.'s Dog Training. Over a decade later, Paul has helped countless dogs and their families and is now proud to introduce Tails University alongside his own family.

Paul employs a balanced training approach tailored to meet each client’s unique needs and goals. His methods include:

Classical and operant conditioning
Positive and negative reinforcement
Counter-conditioning

Paul believes that training should be a lifelong commitment. No dog is too old to learn—just like humans, they can break bad habits and develop new, positive behaviors. The American Kennel Club reports that dogs who receive training are significantly less likely to be surrendered to shelters. By investing in training, you are investing in your dog’s future and well-being.
