About Us

Welcome to Tails University! We believe that proper training is the key to building strong, lasting relationships between you and your pets.

Where Your Money Goes

Tails University is a family-run dog training business. Paul Telthorster, a certified dog trainer, leads our training programs, while Bekah manages the business operations. Together, we balance professional expertise and family values to provide high-quality training services. We have three children and are working hard to build a brand-new facility to enhance our training programs.

When you invest in training with us, your money supports multiple aspects of our mission:

  • A well-trained dog that listens, behaves, and thrives in any environment.

  • Peace of mind knowing your pet is on the right track.

  • Confidence in handling and communicating with your dog effectively.

  • A better life and stronger bond between you and your beloved pet.

  • The continual improvement of our training programs—because more training leads to better results, and consistency is key to long-term success.

Your financial support also helps sustain our family business and contributes directly to the expansion of Tails University. We are in the process of building a brand-new facility, with an anticipated grand opening this winter for the holiday season. This expansion will include:

  • Two new dog runs and playgrounds

  • New individual dorm rooms for boarding

  • A dedicated grooming area

  • Expanded training space

Currently, we are clearing land to make this vision a reality, and every client’s support is deeply appreciated. This growth allows us to better serve our community and continue our mission of promoting responsible pet ownership.

Our Mission

At Tails University, we understand how crucial it is to have a well-trained pet, not just for their well-being but for your peace of mind as well. Training can be challenging, but the rewards are immeasurable—creating a bond of trust, enhancing communication, and ensuring a safe, happy environment for both pets and their owners.

Unfortunately, the need for training and education is more urgent than ever. Every year, approximately 3.1 million dogs are surrendered to animal shelters in the United States alone, often due to behavioral issues that could have been corrected with proper training. Our goal is to prevent this outcome by providing pet owners with the tools and knowledge necessary to raise well-behaved, happy dogs.

We also recognize that training becomes even more essential in special circumstances. Pets can be incredible companions for individuals with unique needs, and we aim to equip both pets and their owners with the tools for success. Our mission is to foster understanding, ensuring that pets can provide support, comfort, and companionship while strengthening the human-animal bond.

About Our Founder

Owner & Head Dog Trainer - Paul Telthorster

2025 marks the 12th year of professional dog training for Paul. His journey began with the rescue of his best friend, Baxter, whom he found abandoned in a soccer field parking lot. That life-changing experience led him to transition from horse training to dog training.

In 2012, Paul began training under Dan Linder at Action Dogs USA. The following year, he graduated from Animal Behavior College (A.B.C.) with his Dog Training Certificate and founded P.W.'s Dog Training. Over a decade later, Paul has helped countless dogs and their families and is now proud to introduce Tails University alongside his own family.

Paul employs a balanced training approach tailored to meet each client’s unique needs and goals. His methods include:

  • Classical and operant conditioning

  • Positive and negative reinforcement

  • Counter-conditioning

Paul believes that training should be a lifelong commitment. No dog is too old to learn—just like humans, they can break bad habits and develop new, positive behaviors. The American Kennel Club reports that dogs who receive training are significantly less likely to be surrendered to shelters. By investing in training, you are investing in your dog’s future and well-being.

Join us in 2025 for an exciting year of growth and transformation. We can’t wait to continue building a better future for dogs and their owners together!
